It can be difficult to fathom what to wear every day
to work; for most women in India, the struggle to be professional and
traditional at the same time can be a delicate balancing act. While dressing
professionally is important, dressing for one’s comfort is crucial, as we tend
to spend most of our time in the office. Sarees are
the key to perfectly balance work and tradition.
Traditional versus western
clothing
Many women, simply wear printed sarees in India,
for professional environments. However, for younger women, this can pose a
problem. While a lot of the older generation thinks nothing of wearing simple
and embroidered sarees in India throughout the day and for almost
all chores, young adults refuse to wear what they view as a piece of cumbersome
clothing. The styles of clothing which are acceptable in formal corporate
settings have changed, making the generational gap more obvious.
Fifty years ago, wearing denim to
work was a bad idea, however, more companies nowadays see the importance of dressing comfortably, as opposed
to strict formal attire. Therefore, many men dress causally, and causal dress for women are
also allowed within reason.
Dressing well is important
The clothes that we choose to wear says a lot about the person we are,
and at work, this aspect is one of the
most important ones. The colors and styles speak volumes about the person who
is wearing it. It is vital for our clothes to be comfortable, to ensure optimum
performance at work.
