Surat, a city which currently
holds the tag of the largest synthetic textile hub of India, has taken a giant
leap in garment manufacturing from sarees and dress materials to readymade
garments. Recently, more than 105 shops of readymade wholesale garments were
inaugurated in the supermarket of the textile hub where everything ranging from
leggings, jeggings, kurtis, heavy dress
materials, salwar kameez, cotton kurtis as well as Anarkalisin Surat to
Indo-western dresses are available to buyers from different states on wholesale rates.
Surat is so well-known for its
synthetic products market that the whole textile industry is always engaged in
activities of yarn production, weaving, processing, embroidery as well as
trading of synthetic textile products. Surat currently has more than 200
manufacturers who are involved in making the complete range of ladies’ wear
items. Around 90% of polyester produced in India comes from Surat with the main
market of its textile products being India and the surrounding Asian countries.
The city is able to adapt to the changes and latest trends, which has become the
main reason behind the growth of the city’s textile industry. The textile
industry is labour intensive and the support from the government has also
helped a lot in thriving the garment market of Surat. The government has set up
institutes to train the labourers for specific tasks which will help the
manufacturers get the required labourers of their choice in whichever field
they want them to work.
The city faces many challenges in
shipping its products to international markets, one main reason being a lack of
an international airport but still has come out tremendously in terms of
manufacturing man-made fabrics and holds a major position in that. It expects a
growth of around 15-20% in the manmade fabric demand in the near future.
